While conducting a solo investigation on an Aradama, contact with Ellen was lost. Upon hearing the news from Sana, the Director General, Kaoru immediately moves to go on the search, but...

Synopsis[]

Ellen was deployed near Lake Kinshu to investigate on an Aradama sighting in the area. Baffled that the Spectrum Finders have not detected anything, she continued to search about an Aradama that was suspected to be a Category 4 or higher large-scale Aradama. Taking the dried up lakebed into consideration, Ellen began to develop a hypothesis on where the Aradama is currently located.

Eighteen hours after Ellen's last report to the authorities, Director General Sana Maniwa lost contact with her, causing Kaoru to become restless even amidst the Aradama missions given to her and Sayaka. Kaoru was in disbelief upon first hearing of Sana's decision to deploy Ellen on a solo mission, but Sana reminded her that she is currently the captain of the Special Raid Unit, and the shortage of available Toji meant that some missions would be given a higher priority than "an Aradama that cannot be found".

After enduring Kaoru's frustrated namecalling, Sana allowed her to listen to Ellen's last known report, as well as an actual "last" audio clip of Ellen saying "Unbelievable!" 32 minutes later. Sana revealed that the rest of the last report was corrupted, and that this last report was said to have come 1,000 kilometers away, into the ocean. Kaoru decided to head straight to investigate on her own, but Sana instead redirected her to Aradama nest sightings in the Adachi and Arakawa wards, refusing to give an approval to deploy her elsewhere. The Director General pointed out Kaoru's duty as a member of the Special Raid Unit and a Toji, but she also reminded her that she put her trust in Ellen, who is both a student of Osafune Girls' Academy and a trusted ally of Mokusa. Knowing this, Kaoru decided to head out to her assigned mission and to finish it as quickly as possible.

Kaoru was preparing to return to headquarters after finishing her mission with Sayaka, but a phone call from the Director General assured her that they would be en route to Iwate Prefecture soon. Aboard the helicopter to their next mission was Mai Yanase, known for her searching capabilities, who would join Kaoru and Sayaka in looking for Ellen.

Mai took the opportunity to inform Sayaka about the situation involving Ellen, and Kaoru realized that Sana had been manipulating the situation from the start by contacting Mai earlier. Soon, Mai brought out lunch for the three of them, with Sayaka getting a bento box with her favorites. Although Kaoru was displeased that Mai seemed to be pampering Sayaka too much, the once-timid Sayaka voiced out that enjoying the things one likes is necessary; this was something that Mai taught her, which in turn, Mai learned from Kanami.

Upon reaching Lake Kinshu, the three noticed the muddy floor of the lake, as well as a stone structure that were the remains of a levee and a train station. Kaoru immediately brought out Nene to scout the area. Mai and the others then continued looking as Nene came up empty. Kaoru realized that they were having the same outcome as Ellen's during her solo mission, but upon listening to Ellen's last transmission, Mai suggested investigating the stone structure in the middle of the lake.

Mai used Toukaku and Myougan to search the area, and Myougan revealed Ellen's footprints, as well as traces of a battle involving a large object. Sayaka deduced that a crab-like Aradama was the one they were looking for, and they concluded that Ellen might have been dragged by the Aradama into the nearby stone structure. Following the tracks left behind the Aradama took them under the structure. As soon as Mai used Myougan in the area, she quickly discovered the crab Aradama, three to four meters in size, and she urged everyone to prepare for battle.

By using Nene to draw out the Aradama, Kaoru prepared to slay the enemy using a Hachimanriki-boosted strike. However, the crab Aradama used Kongoushin to defend itself, putting Kaoru at a disadvantage. As Mai thought of a way to penetrate the crab Aradama's defenses, Sayaka decided to use Munen Musou to pressure the Aradama. Mai then discovered a gap between the Aradama's uses of Kongoushin, leaving Kaoru to exploit this weakness. Kaoru made one final attempt at defeating the crab Aradama, but it was blocked halfway. Then, a Storm Armor container pod crashed nearby, sent by Sana to assist them. Using the only piece of S-Equipment available to them for the mission, Kaoru once more delivered an attack on the crab Aradama, finally breaking through its defenses.

As Sayaka recovered from her usage of Munen Musou, Kaoru once more looked for Ellen, to no avail. After a desperate shout, however, Ellen's voice was heard. To the disbelief of everyone, Ellen revealed that she stumbled upon a frayed space where the crab Aradama would move from the living world to the Netherworld, and she could only move out of the Netherworld by being carried back by an "enlarged" Nene. After gaining power (with the help of Mai's breasts), Nene brought back Ellen, who immediately showed them the "ecosystem of Aradama" thriving harmlessly inside the frayed space. Ellen was excited about this discovery, although the fall of the crab Aradama meant that the frayed space would disappear over time and be submerged under the lake again. Moreover, removing the harmless Aradama from their habitat may turn them into ordinary Aradama. Regardless, she saw this as an important find for her dream of finding a way for humans and Aradama to live together peacefully.

After the successful rescue mission, Kaoru and the others slept as they took the helicopter back to headquarters. As Ellen voiced out her joy in seeing Kaoru rescue her, Mai commented about how Kaoru was worried about her the entire time. Mai also wondered about why Ellen does not give Kaoru a nickname unlike those she meet. Kaoru woke up in time to remind Ellen that she asked her to stop calling her "Oruoru" long ago. Ellen then took the opportunity to apologize to Kaoru for making her worry and, as a thank you for everything she had done for her sake, gave her a kiss. Sayaka and Nene then woke up to a surprised Mai and a flustered Kaoru.
